Therapy for Vietnamese,
Asian-American, multicultural individuals and family
People in different cultures “not only think about different things but also think in different ways”
-(Hofmann, 2006).
As the world becomes increasingly connected, many of us grow up navigating multiple cultures, identities, and systems at once. We may have been born in one country, raised in another, educated in a different system, fallen in love with someone from a completely different culture, and influenced by different values throughout our lives.
These experiences can create rich perspectives, rich conversations, resilience, and unique ways of understanding the world. At the same time, they can also create tension. Partners may need to have deeper conversations about expectations. Parents and children may face greater challenges in understanding one another. The misunderstandings are often no longer simply generational, but cultural as well. Family members may hold different beliefs about success, relationships, communication, emotions, independence, responsibility, and what it means to live a meaningful life.
Sometimes the conflict is not only between family members, but within oneself.
You may find yourself caught between different expectations, values, or identities. You may feel pressure to honor your family while also wanting to create your own path. You may feel like you belong to multiple worlds, yet fully fit into none of them. These experiences can contribute to stress, anxiety, guilt, perfectionism, relationship difficulties, or a feeling of being disconnected from yourself.
At The Nurture and Connect Center, we recognize that healing cannot be separated from culture, family, and lived experiences. Our work creates space to explore the ways your cultural background, family history, identity, and personal experiences have shaped who you are today. Together, we work toward greater self-understanding, deeper connection, and a way of living that feels authentic to both your values and your unique story. The goal is for you to not only improve your own well-being but also improve your roles in the system you are part of.
Sessions can be provided in both English and Vietnamese.
